The 2011 Rally Jordan (officially the Jordan Rally ) was the fourth round of the 2011 World Rally Championship . The rally was held from April 14-16, 2011 mainly in the desert east of the Dead Sea and in the Jordan Rift in south-western Jordan. This event also included the second of eight races of the 2011 Super 2000 World Rally Championship . The third rally of the 2011 Middle East Rally Championship season was held as part of this event .

The new WRC vehicles Citroën DS3 WRC and Ford Fiesta RS WRC were used at the Jordan Rally for the fourth time . For the second time, the Super 2000 vehicles from Mini, equipped with the 1600 cm³ engine, also competed . Because of their turbocharged engine, the Mini CountrymanS2000 formed a class of their own, between WRC and Ford Fiesta S2000 vehicles. According to the new regulations, a power stage was held at this rally , in which the three fastest drivers achieved bonus points for the drivers' world championship.

Routing and conditions

The paddock was set up in the Dead Sea Center directly on the Dead Sea . The ceremonial start took place in Amman , the capital of Jordan about 50 km to the north . The special stages consisted partly of asphalt roads in the desert polluted with sand and rubble, but mostly of gravel, narrow and winding roads in the desert, strewn with stones of different sizes. The 14 special stages on April 15th and 16th with a total length of 259.56 km started as planned. The planned total length including connecting stages was 1008.89 kilometers. The paddock with the service zone was located near the lowest point on earth (which is not covered with water). The special stages were held at over 40 ° C in the shade in the Jordan desert around the Dead Sea. The highest passage of a special stage was just over 1000 meters above sea level. Most parts of the rally took place below zero sea level down to the Jordan Rift (a good 420 m below sea level). This made the rally an unusual addition to the list of World Rally Championship races. Since all the special stages were comparatively close to the service park and the first stage was also canceled, it was also one of the more compact rallies of the world championship.

report

April 14th to 16th (Thursday to Saturday)

At the Jordan Rally, the first stage, consisting of six special stages, was canceled. The RoRo ship loaded with training cars and service material initially arrived late at the port of Haifa, which was chosen as an alternative solution due to the unrest in the Middle East, due to an engine failure . A storm then prevented the ship from being unloaded. There was a three-day delay before the material reached the paddock in Jordan. Those in charge were forced to cancel the first day of the event. The rally was fully rated according to the WRC regulations .

The French Citroën factory driver Sébastien Ogier achieved the fourth overall victory of his career and the second consecutive win of the season. At the end of the rally, Ogier was only two tenths of a second faster than second, the Finn Jari-Matti Latvala , who started for the Ford World Rally Team . That was the tightest decision so far in the history of the World Rally Championship. Ogier's team-mate Sébastien Loeb crossed the finish line in third place . Bernardo Sousa won the SWRC rating .

At the Power Stage ( Baptism Site 2 ), which started as the last special stage, with a track length of 10.50 km , Sébastien Ogier achieved three bonus points as the fastest. He also regained the overall lead that he had lost to Latvala on the previous special stage. Mikko Hirvonen , second fastest, scored two and Sébastien Loeb, third fastest, scored a bonus point for the drivers' championship.

Of 31 vehicles that started in the World Championship, 23 made it to the finish line.
