The 2011 Rally de Portugal (officially Vodafone Rally de Portugal ) was the third round of the FIA - World Rally Championship in 2011 .
At this event, which started according to the new regulations , the new WRC vehicles Citroën DS3 WRC and Ford Fiesta RS WRC were used for the third time . The Super 2000 vehicles from Mini (BMW) equipped with the 1600 cc engine also competed in Portugal for the first time . Due to their turbocharged engine, the Mini S2000 formed a class of their own, between WRC and S2000 vehicles. According to the new regulations, a third power stage was held at this rally , in which the three fastest drivers achieved bonus points for the drivers' world championship. The rally was held from March 24-27, 2011, mainly in the Algarve and the Alentejo region , in southern Portugal . This event also included the first of six rounds of the Junior World Rally Championship ( called “WRC Academy” from 2011) and the second of seven rounds of the 2011 Production World Rally Championship (PWRC).
Routing and conditions
The paddock was set up in Faro . The ceremonial start took place on the afternoon of March 24th, right before the first spectator rating test in Lisbon. This paved stage, which was only 3.27 km long, did not affect the starting order of the next day. The other special stages consisted of gravel roads, but mostly of gravel, very narrow and winding forest paths. Seventeen special stages with a length of 385.37 km were started as planned. The total length including connecting stages was 1,359.71 kilometers. During the last two special stages there was heavy rain, which, according to some drivers, made the track slippery as if on ice.
report
March 25th to 27th (Friday to Sunday)
The French Citroën works driver Sébastien Ogier achieved the third overall victory of his career and the second consecutive victory at the Rally Portugal. His team-mate Sébastien Loeb crossed the finish line in second place , followed by the Finn Jari-Matti Latvala , who started for the Ford World Rally Team .
At the last special stage, with 30.1 km longest power stage (special stage 22) of the season, Sébastien Loeb achieved three bonus points as the fastest, Jari-Matti Latvala two and the third fastest Sébastien Ogier one bonus point for the drivers' championship.
Since the WRC Academy only used the first two stages, of the seventy vehicles that started, only thirty-eight made it to the finish. Twenty-three vehicles were affected by actual failures.
