The 37th Rallye Deutschland was the 10th round of the FIA - World Rally Championship 2019 . It lasted from August 22nd to 25th, 2019 and a total of 19 special stages were driven.

report

The Rallye Deutschland went through the racing days in summery and dry weather. The 2019 edition was all about the duel between Ott Tänak (Toyota) and Thierry Neuville (Hyundai). Both achieved several special stage victories and were only separated by a few seconds until Saturday afternoon. At the WP Panzerplatte there was a preliminary decision when Neuville got a tire damage and had to change the bike. This cost a good one and a half minutes and deprived him of his chance of victory. From then on, Tanak managed his leadership. However, he had in the last WP still a little fear for the victory, because in the Power Stage one of the front brakes had a defect.

The asphalt rally was disappointing for Sébastien Ogier , as his Citroën C3 WRC could only be driven with severe understeer, so he kept losing time. He couldn't keep up with the pace of Tänak and Neuville and stayed in third place until he was overtaken by Kris Meeke and Jari-Matti Latvala (both Toyota).

The M-Sport team had technical problems with Teemu Suninen's car on the second special stage. On Saturday, Suninen showed his potential with fast times. Otherwise there wasn't much to gain for the British rally team. Gus Greensmith was the best driver in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC with ninth place .

The winner Ott Tänak had won five world championship races in the 2019 season so far. The Estonian was leading the world championship table with 33 points ahead of Neuville.
