Rally Portugal 2019

The 53rd Rally of Portugal was the seventh round of the FIA - World Rally Championship 2019 . It lasted from May 29th to June 2nd, 2019. 20 special stages were planned, but a total of only 18 special stages had been driven by Sunday.

report

For long stretches of the Rally Portugal was dominated by the three-way battle between Ott Tänak , Kris Meeke and Jari-Matti Latvala , all of them driving a Toyota Yaris WRC. The three pilots were in the lead until Saturday afternoon. Tänak, who was struggling with braking problems at times, came under pressure from Latvala until a defective shock absorber forced the Finn to give up. Shortly afterwards, a shock absorber on Tänak's car broke, whereupon his lead over Meeke shrank to 4.3 seconds before the final day. Meeke attacked on the final day and risked too much, he lost 17 seconds on the penultimate special stage because of a spin and with it the chance of overall victory. At the final Power Stage, Meeke hit his car, damaged the suspension and had to give up. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) inherited second and Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) third.
