Hawaii National Guard

The Hawaii National Guard of the US state of Hawaii has existed under this name since 1893 and is part of the United States National Guard ( acronymized USNG ) established in 1903 and thus also part of the second level of the military reserve of the United States' armed forces .

The members of the National Guard are voluntary service payable militiamen that the Governor of Hawaii David Ige are subject. The President of the United States is the commander-in-chief for federal missions . Adjutant General of Hawaii has been Major General Kenneth S. Hara since 2019.

Already from 1893 to 1898, there was the National Guard of Hawaii Republic of Hawaii, during the American-Spanish war through a joint resolution (joint resolution) was the Senate and House of Representatives on 7 July 1898 annexed by the United States. The national guards of the states (and also of the Hawaii Territory , which existed until 1959 ) have been federally and institutionally closely linked to the regular army and air force since 1903 , so that the federal level can fall back on them under certain circumstances with the consent of Congress . The Hawaii National Guard consists of the two branches of the Army and the Air Force , namely the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard . Separate from this is the state guard , the Hawaii Territorial Guard (active 1941-1947), which was only obliged to the state and was formed after the attack on Pearl Harbor .

The Hawaii Army National Guard had 2996 manpower in 2017 and the Hawaii Air National Guard 2172 manpower, making a total of 5168 manpower.
