The Florida National Guard of the US state Florida (Florida Department of Military Affairs) has existed since 1861 and is part of the United States National Guard ( acronymized USNG ) established in 1903 and thus also part of the second level of the military reserve of the United States' Armed Forces .

The members of the National Guard are voluntary service payable militiamen that the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis are subject. The President of the United States is the commander-in-chief for federal missions . Adjutant General of Florida has been Major General James O. Eifert since 2019.

The Florida National Guard consists of the two branches of the Army and Air Force , namely the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard . Separate from this is the state guard , the Florida State Guard (currently inactive), which is solely obliged to the state.

The Florida Army National Guard had 9447 manpower in 2017, and the Florida Air National Guard had 2017 manpower of 11464.

history

The Florida National Guard traces its roots back to the state militia associations in 1861. The national guards of the states have been federally and institutionally closely linked to the regular army and air force since 1903 , so that the federal level can fall back on them under certain circumstances with the consent of Congress . The National Guard has been used in every major conflict below, as in the First and Second World War and the Korean War . After the attacks of September 11, 2001 , the National Guard was involved in the war on terror . a. also used in Iraq and Afghanistan . Inside, the Florida National Guard was z.
