Esapekka Lappi (born January 17, 1991 in Pieksämäki ) is a Finnish rally driver . In 2020 he will be used as a works driver for Ford in the World Rally Championship .

Career

Lappi won all rallies in the Finnish championship in 2012 and was then signed by Škoda Motorsport to compete in the European Rally Championship . He won this championship in 2014 in his second season. Before that, he competed in a number of WRC rallies for Citroën and Ford and scored his first World Championship points in Portugal in 2013 . In 2015 and 2016 he competed in WRC2. In his sophomore year he won the championship. He was then signed by Toyota for the WRC and took part in the last eight rallies of the 2017 season. He won his first rally in Finland and achieved four more places in the points, so that he was allowed to take part in all rallies as a works driver in the coming season. He achieved three podium positions and fifth place in the overall standings. For the 2019 season he moved to Citroën, where he experienced a changeable season. He finished second three times, but also missed the points six times and was only tenth overall. At the end of the season, Citroën withdrew from the WRC and Lappi switched to Ford.
