The 85th Monte Carlo Rally was the first of 13 FIA - World Cup races in 2017 discharged and was from January 19 to 22 2017th The rally included a total of 17 special stages, one special stage (16) had to be canceled for safety reasons. Too many spectators had come along the route.

Sébastien Ogier, M-Sport

Hayden Paddon had an accident with his Hyundai on the first special stage on Thursday evening . A spectator was so seriously injured in the accident that he died as a result. Hyundai withdrew Paddon's car from the rally.

When Toyota debuted in the World Rally Championship, Jari-Matti Latvala immediately took second place. Until then, this was his best result at the Monte Carlo Rally.

Sébastien Ogier won for the fourth time in the Principality. The first two days Ogier fought in the M-Sport Ford against Thierry Neuville in the Hyundai in vain for the top. After an accident, Neuville had to admit defeat to the reigning world champion, although he did not make it through Saturday without a mistake.

It started snowing on Sunday at the Powerstage. The second crossing of the Col de Turin became increasingly slippery. Neuville benefited from the front number and won five additional points for the drivers' world championship.

After the first round of 2017, Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport-Ford) led Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota WRT) and Ott Tänak (M-Sport-Ford) in the drivers' championship .
