Trevor Lawrence (born October 6, 1999 in Knoxville , Tennessee ) is an American football player on the position of quarterback . He plays college football at Clemson University , where he was considered one of the most promising high school quarterbacks of all time.

Lawrence won the spot at Clemson in the middle of his first season, bringing the Tigers to an undefeated season and a National Championship Game win against Alabama . In his second season he helped Clemson again to an unbeaten regular season, but had to admit defeat in the National Championship Game against the LSU .

Early years

Trevor Lawrence was born on October 6, 1999 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He attended Cartersville High School in Cartersville , Georgia , where he played football and basketball . In his junior year 2016, he was named Player of the Year by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution after selling 250 of 406 passes for 3,904 yards and 51 touchdowns . As a sophomore he fit for 3,655 yards and 43 touchdowns, as a freshman for 3,042 yards and 26 touchdowns.

From sophomore through senior year, Lawrence led the Purple Hurricanes to 41 straight wins, winning two state championships, four regional titles, and receiving numerous high school player of the year honors. In 2017, in Georgia, Lawrence broke the record for passing yards and passing touchdowns previously held by Deshaun Watson of Gainesville , who also played for Clemson.

Lawrence was seen as one of the most promising high school quarterbacks of all time. On December 16, 2016, Lawrence chose Clemson University.

2018

Lawrence started his first season on Clemson's Depth Chart behind Kelly Bryant, but received the same playing time in the first few games of the season. Head Coach Dabo Swinney named Lawrence as the new starter after four games, after which Bryant announced that he would change schools. Lawrence led Clemson to an unbeaten regular season and a 42-10 win over Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship Game. The Tigers entered the College Football Playoffs as the second seeded team and defeated Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl Classic 2018 with 30: 3. This moved them into the College Football Playoff National Championship Game 2019, where they defeated Alabama 44:16. Lawrence was named the game's offensive MVP, making it the first freshman quarterback since Jamelle Holieway for Oklahoma in 1985, starting for a National Champion.

Lawrence threw 3,280 passing yards, 30 touchdowns that season, and was recognized by the Touchdown Club of Columbus with the National Freshman of the Year and Archie Griffin Awards. He was also named ACC Rookie of the Year.

Back in his sophomore year with the Tigers, Lawrence was named ACC Preseason Player of the Year and was the top candidate for the Heisman Trophy . In the early stages of the season, Lawrence played comparatively inconsistently, which made him virtually eliminated from the Heisman Trophy race. In the final phase of the regular season, however , he led the FBS in the passer rating and was seventh in the vote for the Heisman Trophy. Lawrence helped Clemson to an unbeaten regular season and a victory in the ACC Championship Game against Virginia , which Clemson was in the final ranking of the College Football Playoffs in 3rd place. In the 2019 Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State , he threw the 29:23 win, with which Clemson moved into the National Championship Game for the second time in a row, for 259 passing yards and two touchdowns and ran with 16 runs for 107 yards and one touchdown. Lawrence lost the first game of his career in the CFP Championship Game against LSU , with Clemson's winning streak of 29 games and the Tigers losing 42:25. Lawrence had the worst passer rating of his career as he only made 18 of 37 passes for 234 yards and no touchdown.
