Elfyn Evans (born December 28, 1988 in Dolgellau ) is a rally driver from Wales who has competed in the World Rally Championship since 2007 . His father Gwyndaf Evans was a former British rally champion (1996).
Career
Beginnings
As the offspring of the Welsh rally drivers, Evans started his professional career in 2007 in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy , where he finished third overall. The following year, 2008, he won the series. In 2010 he won again in the Sporting Trophy series, he won the Junior British Rally title and was Pirelli Star Driver .
WRC junior classes
In 2012 Evans won the WRC Academy Cup in the FIA young driver category . His prize was a sponsored WRC2 participation in 2013 where he finished seventh overall (Qatar M-Sport World Rally Team), as well as a job at M-Sport, where he was allowed to test and help develop the Ford Fiesta RS WRC .
WRC class from 2014
In 2014 Elfyn Evans is driving the first full season in the World Rally Championship with the M-Sport World Rally Team . He finished fourth at the Rally Mexico as the best result of the season. In 2015 Elfyn Evans is under contract with M-Sport and driving a Ford Fiesta RS WRC . He regularly placed himself in the world championship points. At the Rally Argentina , he climbed onto the podium for the first time in third place. He finished second at the Corsica Rally , his best career result to date. With 89 points Evans was ranked seventh in the drivers' world championship.
Back to WRC2 despite good performances
Despite the good performance in the season 2015 Evans was supported by M-Sport -Teamchef Malcolm Wilson only for the WRC2 class reported 2016 . With the WRC2 car Ford Fiesta R5, Evans finished eighth overall at the Monte Carlo Rally and ninth overall at the Sweden Rally . He won world championship points for the WRC despite the defeated car. In the WRC2 class, he won both world championship races.
Return to the 2017 WRC
After a year break, Evans was back in the top WRC class in 2017 . Again he got a seat in the M-Sport team as the third driver next to Sebastien Ogier and Ott Tänak . He led the Rally Argentina for a long time and finally missed victory against Thierry Neuville in a Hyundai by just 0.7 seconds . He repeated this result at the Rally Finland , this time behind Esapekka Lappi . At his home rally in Wales , he scored his first victory in the World Rally Championship . In the overall standings Evans finished the season in fifth place with 128 championship points.
Switch to Toyota 2020
After another season in 2019 with M-Sport, Evans moved to the Toyota WRT Team, where he won his second world championship run at the Rally Sweden .
