history
In 2004, the then bishop of the Limburg diocese, Franz Kamphaus, carried out a visitation trip through the parishes in Frankfurt am Main. With a view to the city of Frankfurt, one result was how a metropolis deals with dying and death and how Christians can set special signals. On January 15, 2007, Bishop Franz Kamphaus signed the deed for the establishment of a center for mourning pastoral care in the former parish church of St. Michael in the Nordend district of Frankfurt. This document came into effect on July 1, 2007. Like the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in Frankfurt-Bornheim , in which the center for Christian meditation and spirituality of the Limburg diocese is located, the Church of St. Michael is now a branch church of the parish of St.-Josef Frankfurt am Main , based in Frankfurt -Bornheim.
The center is a pastoral institution of the diocese and reports to the department head for pastoral services of the episcopal ordinariate (status 12/2017: Dr. Hildegard Wustmans). Until 2019, a pastor of the priestly community Oratory of Saint Philipp Neri and a religious sister of the Congregatio Jesu were responsible for the offer, and since January 1, 2020, pastoral advisor Verena Maria Kitz. She accompanies the planning for the first urn burial church in the diocese of Limburg and works in cooperation with the city church on the reformatting of the concept of the Center for Funeral Pastoral. remodeling
The transformation of the parish church into the church of the Center for Mourning Pastoral Care led to two liturgical accents inside: a place of baptism and a place of remembrance of the dead were established. The place of the baptismal commemoration includes a baptismal font that was set up at the intersection of the axes of the two entrances. This is complemented by a stone stele that serves as a candlestick for the Easter candle and was set up in the place of the old baptismal font. Ludwig Becker's floor mosaic was transferred from the church to the entrance area of the center. The location of the dead remembrance is prior to the chancel between the first bank rows and consists of an in with slate inserted occupied floor and four chandeliers encircled plate of sandstone . On this is the book of the dead with the names of the deceased from the parish of St. Michael (until 2007) or St. Josef. The coffin or flowers and candles can be placed here for requies or farewell parties . A glass window created by Georg Meistermann for the St. Raphael Church in Berlin - Gatow , which was demolished in 2005, was installed in the chapel of the Center for Mourning Pastoral Care next to the church in 2012.
