Henk Haverkate

Wilhelm Hendrik Haverkate (born April 24, 1936 in Amsterdam ; † March 31, 2008 ) was a Dutch Romanist , Hispanic and pragmalinguist .

Life

Hendrik Haverkate studied Spanish (graduated in 1966) and received his doctorate in 1979 from the University of Amsterdam under Simon C. Dik with the thesis Impositive sentences in Spanish. Theory and description in linguistic pragmatics (Amsterdam 1979).

Haverkate was Full Professor of Spanish at the University of Amsterdam from 1991 to 1997. He was co-editor of the Diálogos Hispánicos de Amsterdam magazine .
