Race report

Sébastien Loeb (Citroën) had won the Rallye Deutschland for the sixth time in a row, something no other driver had done before. Loeb completed the 19 special stages in the three days from Friday to Sunday in a total time of 3: 27: 27.5 hours. In the drivers' world championship, the defending champion won five points on the leading Marcus Grönholm (Ford), who had lost two places on Sunday due to a driving error and ended up in fourth place.

François Duval (Citroën) drove a flawless rally and secured second place overall. The privateer won all five special stages on Sunday and worked his way up to second place on the last kilometers of the "Moselwein 2" stage (SS19). In the end, he was only 20.3 seconds short of Loeb.

Third place went to Ford works driver Mikko Hirvonen , who lost 58.8 seconds to Loeb.

Private Jan Kopecký (Škoda) finished fifth, ahead of Petter Solberg (Subaru) and Toni Gardemeister (Citroën). Solberg had a moment of shock when a cow stood in the middle of the street that he was just able to avoid.
