Sébastien Ogier won the 2020 Rally Mexico

The 17th Rally Mexico was the third of the planned 15 FIA - World Cup races 2020 . The rally should consist of 24 special stages, due to the expected high number of spectators on Sunday, the special stages 22 to 24 were waived. The danger for the spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic was too great. In addition, the travel regulations in various countries had already been shut down and it was necessary to ensure that the team members could still fly home. The rally took place between March 12th and 14th and not until March 15th. Despite the cancellation, the Mexico Rally scored one hundred percent for the overall ranking of the World Rally Championship.

report

The decision to end the Rally Mexico one day before the end in view of the coronavirus crisis was made while the WRC drivers were still on the special stages (SS) on Saturday afternoon.

Six-time world champion Sebastien Ogier clinched his first victory for Toyota. After SS21 he will be the leader and thus the winner of the canceled rally. Second behind Ogier went to Ott Tänak (Hyundai), 27.8 seconds back. On Friday, the reigning world champion lost almost a minute in an accident on SS4. With three special stage best times on Saturday he caught Teemu Suninen (M-Sport-Ford) in second place. Tänak was no longer able to catch up with Ogier.
