Claudio Gomes (born July 23, 2000 in Argenteuil ) is a French - Guinea-Bissau football player . The midfielder plays for Manchester City and is a young French national player.

Career

Born on July 23, 2020 in Argenteuil , Val-d'Oise , Gomes played for ASC Val d'Argenteuil and RFC Argenteuil , two teams in his hometown, before joining Évreux Football Club in 2011 for 27 and two years later moved to Paris Saint-Germain .

On July 25, 2018, Gomes signed with Manchester City . He had trained with ManCity since his PSG contract expired in June and was on their pre-season tour of the US. However, the club wanted to wait until he turned 18 before they offered him a contract. He made his professional debut for ManCity on August 5, 2018 in a 2-0 win over Chelsea FC in the FA Community Shield final when he came on for John Stones in added time. He was the captain of the U23 team in several games.

After another appearance for ManCity in the League Cup , Gomes switched to PSV Eindhoven on loan for the 2019/20 season , for whose reserve team he played in the Dutch second division .

National team

Gomes is a young international player for France. He was the captain of the French U17 national team at the 2017 U-17 European Football Championship and the 2017 U-17 World Cup . At the European Championship, in which the French reached the quarter-finals, he came into the team of the tournament.

In August 2018, Gomes was appointed to the French U19 national team for the friendlies against Slovenia , Croatia and India . He was also selected for the 2019 U-19 European Football Championship .

Play style

Gomes is named N'Golo Kanté by his teammates, who compare him to the French midfielder for his efforts to regain the ball.

Personal

Gomes is the son of Guinea-Bissau footballer Amarildo Gomes, who played for AS Beauvais and Stade Rennes in his youth before retiring with a knee injury. His younger brother Ylan Gomes plays for Le Havre AC reserves . According to Le Parisien , he has a passion for history, especially the French Revolution .
