Bujar Spahiu (born February 26, 1976 in Kukës , Albania ) is an Albanian Islamic scholar and Friday preacher who has been chairman of the ( Sunni ) Muslim Community of Albania (KMSh) since March 2019 - the title of Grand Mufti of Albania was criticized by numerous Muslims in Albania previously abolished. Even the offices of the muftis no longer exist in this form after centuries of history.

Spahiu was one of the first Albanians to travel to Turkey for religious training in 1992 . After attending a medrese in Istanbul , he studied Islamic studies in Cairo . He immersed himself in the Koran exegesis . From 2003 he taught at the Hafiz Ali Korça Madrasa in Kavaja , of which he became director in 2005.

The election of the new chairman of the Muslim Community of Albania (KMSh) was held on March 2, 2019. Bujar Spahiu was elected chairman. He received 26 votes against two votes received by the Mufti of Tirana Ylli Gurra. The election of Bujar Spahius to head the KMSh was accompanied by protests. Some imams and other Muslim officials such as Ylli Gurra saw the election as illegal and criticized it for violating the rules of the KMSh. It was also rumored that the election of Spahiu to this post was a coup by the movement of preacher Fethullah Gülen , who lives in the United States .

Spahius' predecessor as chairman of the KMSh was Skënder Bruçaj . Spahiu was vice-chairman of the Muslim Community of Albania during his tenure . He had also been the head of the Department of Education within the Muslim Community.
