Teemu Suninen (born February 1, 1994 in Vantaa ) is a Finnish rally driver.

Career

Teemu Suninen began his motorsport career in karting in 2002 . There he achieved several podium finishes by 2011. He achieved his greatest successes in karting in 2010 when he won the Finnish Kart Championship and came second in the CIK-FIA European Championship in the KF2 class, and in 2011 when he won the KF2 title in the SKUSA SuperNationals XV .

In 2012 he drove a season in the European Rallycross Championship in the Super 1600 classification with a Renault Clio and finished eighth.

With the 2013 season, Suninen switched to rallying and drove in the Finnish F-Cup, which he won in the B-Junior classification. He has been competing in the World Rally Championship (WRC) since 2014 . In his first WRC season he drove together with his co-driver Juha-Pekka Jauhiainen in a Ford Fiesta R2 in the WRC 3 classification and finished eighth in the overall classification. At the end of the year, he took first place in the Finnish Fiesta Sport Trophy .

In the following years he competed in the WRC together with co-driver Mikko Markkula until 2018. During this period, he achieved his greatest rally success in 2016 with a Škoda Fabia R5 in the WRC2 classification with the runner-up championship title. A year later he finished third in WRC2 on a Ford Fiesta R5 and Ford Fiesta RS WRC .

In the 2019 season he competed in the WRC classification with co-drivers Marko Salminen and Jarmo Lehtinen in a Ford Fiesta WRC and finished ninth at the end of the year.
