report

While Ott Tänak clinched his second win of the season in Chile, his Toyota team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala , who started the rally with the best time in the first special stage, only got a single World Championship point in the end. On the last stage on Saturday (SS12), Latvala rolled out in third place with a technical defect. On Sunday he couldn't get more than the third fastest time on the power stage , which still gave him three world championship points. In the end, the Finn had to be content with 11th place in the final result.

Even Kris Meeke in the third Toyota had no racing luck. The Brit overturned in fifth place on SS7 on Saturday and lost a lot of time. With the best time on the first Sunday stage (SS13) and three World Championship points for eighth place in the final result, Meeke was only able to limit the damage.

Third place went to Sébastien Loeb . For the WRC record champion, it is the first podium finish in his fourth start in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. On the way to this, which he achieved seven seconds behind Sébastien Ogier , Loeb achieved four special stage best times in Chile.

A serious accident happened on Saturday in the eighth special stage. Thierry Neuville flew over a knoll and lost control of his Hyundai, the front of the car was completely destroyed. Co-drivers Nicolas Gilsoul and Neuville could only leave the car with the help of a few spectators and had to go to the hospital for an examination. Neuville's first feared broken leg has not been confirmed.

Ogier replaced Neuville in the championship lead in the overall standings, he was ten points ahead of the Belgian at the time. After the Rally Chile, Tänak was only two points behind Neuville.
