Kalle Rovanperä (born October 1, 2000 in Jyväskylä ) is a Finnish rally driver . In 2020, the reigning WRC2 Pro World Champion will be the youngest works driver of all time in the World Rally Championship for Toyota . He is the son of Harri Rovanperä .
Career
Rovanperä drove a car for the first time at the age of six. At the age of 10 he took part in his first rally in Estonia . Between 2015 and 2017 he won the title in the Latvian rally series three times in a row .
In 2017, Rovanperä made his WRC debut at the Rally in Wales . He finished tenth in the last rally of the season in Australia , making him the youngest driver of all time to collect his first championship point.
In 2018, Rovanperä drove seven rallies for Škoda, scored two points and was third in the overall WRC2 standings at the end of the season. The following year he became world champion in the WRC2 Pro category. He had won five of the eleven rallies in this category and finished five times in the overall standings. The best result of the season was sixth place at the Rally Portugal .
For the 2020 season, Rovanperä switched to Toyota's WRC works team, where he will drive alongside multiple world champion Sébastien Ogier . He finished fifth at the season opener, the Monte Carlo Rally, and third at the Sweden Rally , breaking the record of the youngest driver on the podium, who had previously belonged to Yevgeny Novikov , by more than two years.
