The 11th Rally Mexico was held from March 6th to 9th, 2014. A total of 22 special stages were driven on gravel.

Reports

Day 1 (Thursday, March 6th)

Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) set the fastest time on the first special stage and stayed in the lead ahead of Ott Tänak (Ford / WRC2) and Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen).

Day 2 (Friday, March 7th)

In the third special stage, Mads Østberg (Citroën) took the lead, around 3 seconds ahead of Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) and Mikko Hirvonen (Ford). World champion Ogier set three best times in SS 6-8 and took the lead. In the eighth special stage, the third Hirvonen dropped out due to electrical problems. Kris Meeke (Citroën) had to retire due to an accident, also in SS 8, in which the wheel suspension was damaged. Ogier finished the day with a 26.1 second lead over Østberg and Latvala (+42.5 seconds) in first place overall.

3rd day (Saturday, March 8th)

Runner-up Østberg hit the back of his car and damaged the suspension. This was makeshiftly repaired, in the 13th special stage the failure could no longer be avoided. He started again on Sunday according to rule 2 regulations. Andreas Mikkelsen (VW) and Robert Kubica (Ford) rolled over and also dropped out. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) was third in the evening. Apart from all this, Ogier and Latvala drove towards a double victory.

4th day (Sunday, March 9th)

Mads Østberg set the fastest time in the longest special stage (SS 20 / 55.92 kilometers) with the repaired Citroën DS3 WRC . Behind Ogier and Latvala (both Volkswagen Polo R WRC ), the Hyundai i20 WRC achieved its first podium since the return to the race. On the way back to the service park, Neuville's third place was almost lost due to a radiator leak. After completing the last special stage, all vehicles had to return to the service park so that they could also be scored. After the provisional award ceremony, after the last special stage, the first placed got a large bottle of Mexican beer instead of champagne. Neuville emptied this beer into the cooler tank during a brief stop and drove back. In the world championship, Ogier was leading with 63 points ahead of teammate Latvala with 60 points. In third place Østberg with 32 World Championship points.

Quoting Thierry Neuville on the radiator problem: “We could fix it pretty quickly, but to refill the system we had to take everything we had in the car. Luckily we got the beer at the end of the power stage . "
