Reports

Shakedown (Wednesday January 15)

Sébastien Ogier , in the Volkswagen Polo R WRC , completed the 3.52-kilometer route as the fastest at the start of the 2014 rally season. The Citroën Car Driver Kris Meeke and Mads Østberg followed in second and third places.

Day 1 (Thursday, January 16)

In snow and rain, Robert Kubica won the first and second special stages. For newcomers to Hyundai , the rally began with the retirement of Thierry Neuville . In the first special stage, Neuville came off the road and hit the rear of a power pole, which immediately overturned. The Hyundai i20 WRC was beyond repair for the remainder of the rally. In SS 4 the second Hyundai, at the wheel Dani Sordo , was canceled due to electrical problems. Bryan Bouffier took the lead with an impeccable performance and the right tire choice ahead of Robert Kubica and Kris Meeke . Ogier followed in fourth place, 1:07 minutes behind.

Day 2 (Friday, January 17th)

After eight special stages, Bryan Bouffier was still in the lead. However, Ogier coped better with the poor road conditions than on Friday and took second place. He reduced the gap to around 35 seconds. After a driving error by Bouffier in the ninth special stage, Ogier took the lead. When approaching over a small bridge, Robert Kubica drove into the railing and slid stern first down an embankment. The driver and co-driver were uninjured, but had to give up the rally because the car could not be repaired. After the second day, Ogier was in the lead with almost 23 seconds ahead of Bouffier and over 1:30 minutes on Meeke.

3rd day (Saturday, January 18th)

Sébastien Ogier drove towards victory on Saturday after winning SS 12 and 13 in heavy rain. The night stage at Col du Turini had to be neutralized due to heavy snowfall. Even the all-wheel drive vehicles struggled to get through the snow. Jari-Matti Latvala received three extra World Championship points for winning the Power Stage , Ogier got two and one World Championship point went to Meeke.

4th day (Sunday, January 19th)

On Sunday morning, the first three of the rally , Ogier, Bouffier and Meeke, were celebrated at the award ceremony in Monte Carlo .
