Reports

Day 1 (Thursday, October 24th)

After the shakedown, Dani Sordo , with the Citroën DS3 WRC , was in the lead ahead of three Volkswagen Polo R WRCs (Latvala, Ogier and Mikkelsen). The Rallye Catalunya was considered one of the most difficult rallies in the 2013 calendar. On the first few days it was only over asphalt, then the surface changed to gravel.

Day 2 (Friday, October 25th)

On Friday evening, three special stages took place in the dark and integrated with a roundabout , which each had to be completely circled once. Sébastien Ogier was first overall after the first and second special stages. Jari-Matti Latvala took care of the Volkswagen one-two lead after the second day . Dani Sordo and Thierry Neuville followed, around six and nineteen seconds behind.

3rd day (Saturday, October 26th)

Latvala took the lead after Ogier suffered a puncture. After six special stages , Latvala and Sordo were in first place at the same time. At this point in the rally, Neuville, Hirvonen and Novikov were classified in positions 3 to 5 and Ogier in sixth place, 46.8 seconds behind. In the eighth special stage, the last of the day, Sordo took off the gas so that Latvala was in the lead before the final day. As a result, Latvala had to start the gravel stages first on Sunday. Ogier had worked his way up to fourth place by the end of the day, 45.8 seconds behind first place.

4th day (Sunday, October 27th)

After the special stages on Sunday morning, Sébastien Ogier was only 14.4 seconds behind team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala . After an accident with second-placed Dani Sordo in the afternoon, he didn't get any more points for the manufacturers' championship. Volkswagen was therefore able to win a rally before the end of the world championship, after Ogier’s driver’s title, and also the manufacturers’s world championship title. Ogier won the rally in Spain ahead of Latvala with a minimal lead of 1.5 seconds.
