The 31st Rally Germany took place from August 22nd to 25th, 2013. A total of 15 special stages were driven on asphalt. For the first time in the history of the Rally Germany, the show did not start at the basic location of the rally in Trier, but in front of the cathedral in Cologne.

Shakedown (Wednesday, August 21)

Jari-Matti Latvala won the start of the Rally Germany on the 4.55-kilometer circuit ahead of Dani Sordo and Thierry Neuville. An event that mainly took place for the audience and was not very meaningful.

Day 1 (Thursday, August 22nd)

Sébastien Ogier took the lead from Thierry Neuville after the first special stages . After just five kilometers, Evgeny Novikov slipped off the road into the ditch, where he couldn't get out. Jari-Matti Latvala overtook Neuville and moved up to second place with a one-two for Volkswagen. So it went on the second day.

Day 2 (Friday, August 23)

In special stage 3, Ogier damaged the front suspension and had to park the Polo R WRC on one special stage. He only started again on Saturday under the rule 2 regulations . Latvala took the lead and Neuville increased the pressure on him. After eight special stages, Latvala was 7.3 seconds ahead of Neuville and Sordo, 26.3 seconds behind.

3rd day (Saturday, August 24th)

On Saturday morning, Latvala was able to maintain the lead over Neuville. Ogier reported back to the audience's memory with the best time on the "Arena Panzerplatte" special stage. Dani Sordo set the best mark in the tenth special stage and remained third overall. In the afternoon it started to rain, Jari-Matti Latvala slipped off the road and Neuville took the lead. At this point Dani Sordo was only 1.1 seconds behind Neuville. On wet roads, Sordo ( Citroën DS3 WRC ) takes the lead for the first time with an eighteenth of a second difference to Neuville ( Ford Fiesta RS WRC ). As a result, there was a fatal accident at the Rally Germany of the historic vehicles. The last special stage was canceled and the rally resumed on Sunday.

4th day (Sunday, August 25th)

After special stage 15, Thierry Neuville was only 3 seconds behind Sordo, who celebrated his first victory after more than 100 rallies. Mikko Hirvonen secured third place and didn't attack again. In the final power stage , Ogier won three World Championship points, Sordo came second and got 2 additional World Championship points, and Latvala came third. Ogier didn't make it into the top ten of the overall standings. Latvala finished seventh in Volkswagen's home rally.

TV

The station Sport1 brought daily a minimum of 30 minutes long daily report. ServusTV broadcast a 60-minute summary in the evening program on the Monday after the rally. The ORF reported on the Sunday after the rally in the motorsport magazine DRIVE! in German and occasionally on ORF SPORT + in English.
