The 3rd Rally France (Alsace) took place from 4th to 7th October 2012. A total of 22 special stages were planned, one (SS 12) had to be canceled due to overcrowded auditoriums. The Rally France was driven on asphalt.

Day 1 (Thursday, October 4th)

In the first and only special stage (3.36 kilometers) on Thursday, Thierry Neuville (Citroën) was in the lead. Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford) and Dani Sordo (MINI) followed behind . The first ten classified were within 4.2 seconds.

Day 2 (Friday, October 5th)

After four of 22 special stages, Sébastien Loeb (Citroën) was in the lead, followed by Latvala in the Ford Fiesta . In SS 4 Latvala made a mistake and lost some time. Petter Solberg (Ford) got faster and faster and worked his way up to fourth place, after SS 7 he was only two seconds behind Mikko Hirvonen (Citroën). Solberg hit a power pole in SS 9, he lost time and the village was without electricity for a few hours. Latvala won the five-kilometer SS 8 in Mulhouse , at the end of the day he was 13.1 seconds behind Loeb.

3rd day (Saturday, October 6th)

Loeb set himself apart from the competition more and more in special stages 9-11 and managed the lead during special stages 13-16. Since Thierry Neuville appeared too late for the start of SS 11, he received a penalty of 20 seconds. Dani Sordo came in fourth and Mads Østberg in fifth. Østberg overtook Sordo by evening. In SS 10, Nasser Al-Attiyah (Citroën) came off the track and injured two spectators. One of the two had a broken leg, the other a broken arm. Special test 12 had to be canceled because the organizer could no longer guarantee the safety of the spectators. The auditorium was overcrowded.

4th day (Sunday, October 7th)

On Sunday morning the rain came too. Neuville won five of six special stages, one special stage victory went to Ott Taenak (Ford). Loeb / Elena had the time intervals under control. They won the home rally and the 2012 world championship title . The duo celebrated their ninth World Championship win, more than anyone else before. Citroën won the 2012 manufacturers' championship with the DS3 .
