Lagoa Funda ( Portuguese for "deep lake"), also Lagoa Negra ("black lake") or Caldeira Funda , is a crater lake in the central mountainous region of the Portuguese Azores island of Flores , which belongs to the Lajes das Flores district. The lake is located in the Reserva Natural do Morro Alto e Pico da Sé , and is part of the landscape of the Sete Lagoas ("Seven Lakes"), which are all in the highlands of Flores and formed in volcanic craters . Immediately adjacent to the east is the smaller lake Lagoa Comprida . The other five lakes are called Lagoa Branca, Lagoa Rasa, Lagoa da Lomba, Lagoa Seca, and another lake called Lagoa Funda .
The 13 hectare Lagoa Funda lies at an altitude of about 560 m and, with its steep edges, is 105 m deep, which makes it the deepest lake in the Azores by a large margin.
The area is characterized by lush vegetation with remains of the Laurisilva (laurel forest).
