Michał Sołowow (born July 11, 1962 in Kielce ) is a Polish and Austrian entrepreneur and major investor on the Polish stock exchange. In his free time he is a successful rally driver . He is one of the richest Poles.

Life

Sołowow attended the Hanka Sawicka High School in Kielce and studied at the Technical University there . He is married and lives with his family in Masłów near Kielce. His fortune is estimated at around two billion dollars. According to the 2013 Forbes special edition The World's Billionaires , he is 736 richest people and third among the richest Poles. Since 2018 he has also had Austrian citizenship.

Entrepreneur

In the late 1980s Sołowow took over the construction company Mitex, which he sold to the French construction company Eiffage in 2002 . He was also able to increase his fortune with the acquisition and later sale of the hardware store chain Nomi Dom i Ogród to the British retail group Kingfisher . He took a stake in the chemical company Dwory (now Synthos SA ) and financed its growth through cheap loans. He later diversified his assets through investments in companies in the chemical and construction supply industries as well as real estate development. He often took over companies that were on the verge of bankruptcy and which he was able to bring back into profitability after a successful turnaround . Sołowow is one of the most important investors on the Polish stock exchange today. He no longer performs management functions in his company. Through its investments, Sołowow also invests in other countries in Eastern and Central Europe, such as Lithuania, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Hungary. The Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland honored him with an investor award for his activities in Ukraine. In 2010, the German DIY store distributor Meißen Keramik and the associated wall tile factory in Meißen were taken over by the Luxembourg subsidiary Enco .

For a while, Sołowow was interested in the Polish media industry. He acquired the weekly Przekrój , the daily newspapers Życie Warszawy and Echo Dnia as well as the radio station Radio TAK in Kielc (today part of RMF Maxxx ). He later divested because of the high competitive pressure and falling margins in this industry.

Sołowow funds that are active in various derivatives markets include the Magellan Pro-Equity Fund I , the Columbus Pro-Equity Fund II , the Amundsen Pro-Equity Fund III and the Barco Pro-Equity Fund .

In Burgenland he is an investor in the company 3DGence for the production of 3D printers . Although the investment using a 3D printer has failed, he has received Austrian citizenship despite all of this.

Rally driver

Sołowow first took part in a car race in the Polish KJS class (Konkursowa Jazda Samochodem) at the age of 17 . Due to lack of financial means, he could not continue the hobby. Only in 2001 did he race again, initially in a private Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI in the Polish racing series PPZM (Pucharu PZM) , and in the following year for the Polish championship ( Rajdowe Samochodowe Mistrzostwa Polski RSMP) . Later he drove a Subaru Impreza WRC, Fiat Grande Punto S2000 , Peugeot 207 S2000 and a Ford Fiesta RS WRC. His co-driver is Maciej Baran.

In 2004 and 2005 he was third in the Polish RSMP championships, in 2006 and 2010 he was Polish runner-up, in 2006 and 2010 third and in 2008, 2009 and 2012 runner -up in the European rally championship . At the Geko Ypres Rally 2011 he finished third on a Ford Fiesta S2000 .
