Dieter Depping
Dieter Depping (born August 7, 1966 in Hanover ) is a German rally driver .
Career
From 1992 to 1994 he won the German Rally Championship . In 1994, 1996 and 1997 he won the Rally Germany in a Ford Escort . Occasionally he also competed in world championship races . He was also successful at numerous national rally events, and took several times a VW Golf GTI at the 24 Hours Nürburgring and on long-distance cup part.
Dieter Depping became a works driver for Volkswagen Motorsport in 2001 . He was part of the team that set the 24-hour world record for the Volkswagen W12 Coupé in Nardò on October 14, 2001 . In the same year he also won Group A with a capacity of up to two liters in the German Rally Championship in a VW Golf IV .
In 2002 he was one of the test drivers of the VW Polo 1600 Super rally vehicle and the VW Tarek marathon rally vehicle . In 2003 Depping took part in the Dakar Rally for the first time . In 2007 he contested the Dakar Rally in a service truck for Volkswagen Motorsport and came in 26th overall in the truck classification. In the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, he won a class. The following year he was third in the Central Europe Rally in the VW Race Touareg II . Furthermore, in 2008 he contested the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in the factory-fitted VW Scirocco and came second in the class standings. Six years after his last Dakar outing in the automobile class, Depping and his co-driver Timo Gottschalk took part in the 2009 Dakar Rally in one of four Race Touaregs . He was able to achieve a podium finish on a few stages, but only finished sixth in the overall standings due to technical problems at the start of the rally. In 2011 he worked on the development of the VW Polo R WRC .
