Central Europe rally

The Central Europe Rally was a marathon rally . It was held in Central Europe in 2008 as a replacement event for the 2008 Dakar Rally , which was canceled due to the risk of terrorism.

The rally started on April 20, 2008 in Budapest and led over a 2671 kilometer route to Romania and back to Hungary , where it ended on April 26, 2008 at Lake Balaton . 238 teams took part in this event. The rally was organized by the Hungarian Szalay Balázs , who also took part as a driver in an Opel Antara .

The Central Europe Rally was the first run of the new Dakar series , which was founded on January 4th, 2008 by the Amaury Sport Organization .
