David Casteu

David Casteu (born April 9, 1974 in Nice , France ) is an enduro racer .

In the mid-1990s, Casteu achieved his first successes in enduro sports. In 1997 he became French Vice Enduro Champion in class B, one year later in class A.

Career

In 2000 he made his debut in the Rally Raid World Championship at the Rally Tunisia . In 2003 he competed in the Dakar Rally for the first time . In the same year he won the Tunisia Rally in the 450cc class. In 2005 he finished third in the Morocco Rally , the Pharaohs Rally and the UAE Desert Challenge . He finished the rally raid world championship in second place.

Casteu received a place on the KTM factory team in 2006. He finished eighth at the Dakar Rally and was able to achieve a stage win. At the rally raid world championship he was again second. In 2007 he finished second in the Dakar Rally and third in the World Rally Raid Championship. 2008 was his most successful season so far. Casteu won the Central Europe Rally , the backup event of the Dakar Rally, and the Pharaohs Rally .

Casteu switched to the private Vectra Racing team for the 2009 season and is the team captain there. He started as one of the favorites in the Dakar Rally 2009 , but lost any chance of overall victory on the first stage, as he lost over an hour due to a puncture. At the end of the rally there was still fourth place in the overall standings.
