Timo Gottschalk (born August 28, 1974 in Neuruppin ) is a German rally navigator.

Life

The trained engineer for vehicle technology started his hobby, rallying, on military training areas and fields. In 1995 he turned his hobby into a profession and concentrated fully on rallying as a navigator. In the early days of his career, he competed in rallies on an old Trabant 601 . As Michael Neuschäfer's co-driver , Gottschalk completed his first season in the German Rally Championship in 1997 on a Ford Escort . A year later he also took part in the Ceske Krumlov Rally with Dieter Depping in an Audi S2 .

In 1999 he participated in the Rallye Corsica together with Niklas Birr for the first time in the rally world championship on a Seat Ibiza Cupra. After two years without a permanent place in a team, Gottschalk took part in the German Rally Championship again in 2001 alongside Carsten Mohe in a Renault Mégane . The team finished fourth in the championship at the end of the season, and a year later it was sixth. In addition, in 2002 Gottschalk completed a number of rally challenge runs with Frank Richert on a Ford Escort .

In 2002, Gottschalk was co-pilot at Dieter Depping's side during the test drives of the new VW Polo Super 1600. In the following year he had no major missions. Among other things, he drove his first rally raid at Baja Germany . At the end of the year he was back at the start of the Lausitz Rally with Frank Richert . In 2004 he got a new job with the Red Bull Rallye Team as co-driver of Andreas Aigner and Quirin Müller in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8. With Armin Kremer he also finished second in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship . In 2005, Gottschalk again contested several European rallies with his team-mate Aigner and started four rounds of the World Rally Championship. The following year he drove a Škoda Fabia WRC regularly in the world championship, but parted ways with Aigner in the middle of the season.

In 2007 Timo Gottschalk took part in the Dakar Rally with Dieter Depping in a Volkswagen Motorsport race truck . After taking part in the Rally Norway in the meantime , he drove with Depping in 2008 in a VW Race Touareg II of the works team in the Central Europe Rally and made it to third place. Gottschalk also drove the 2009 Dakar Rally with his team-mate Depping , which they finished in sixth place.

He drove the 2010 Dakar Rally (second place) with Nasser Al-Attiyah . In 2011 he also navigated Nasser Al-Attiyah through Chile and Argentina. The team was able to record an overall victory for themselves.

Gottschalk decided not to defend his title in 2012. Instead, he is taking part in VW's test program for the 2013 World Rally Championship, which the car manufacturer will take part in after the Dakar program has ended.

In the summer of 2018, Gottschalk won the Silk Road rally in the car classification as the co-driver of the Saudi driver Yazeed Al-Rajhi .
