Vernon H. Vaughan
Vernon H. Vaughan (born February 11, 1838 in Mount Meigs , Montgomery County , Alabama , † December 4, 1878 in Sacramento , California ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ).
Vaughan was Secretary of the Territory in the Utah Territory from 1870 to 1871 . Furthermore, US President Ulysses S. Grant appointed him acting governor of the territory after the death of Territorial Governor John Shaffer . He held the office for an uneventful year and then ran unsuccessfully for re-election. The Wooden Gun Rebellion was the only significant event during his tenure. The men who were accused of participating were interrogated and then released.
