Jerediah Horsford

Jerediah Horsford (born March 8, 1791 in Charlotte , Chittenden County , Vermont , †  January 14, 1875 in Livonia , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jerediah Horsford attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. He also took an active part in the British-American War of 1812 . In 1815 he served as a missionary to the Seneca Indians. In his homeland he held various local offices. In 1831 he became a member of the New York State Assembly . He later became a member of the Whig Party .

In the congressional election of 1850 Horsford was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 29th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Robert L. Rose on March 4, 1851 . Until March 3, 1853 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Jerediah Horsford also became a colonel in the New York State Militia. In 1863 he moved to Livonia, Livingston County , where he returned to farming. He died there on January 14, 1875.
