William D. Thomas

William David Thomas (born March 22, 1880 in Granville , Washington County , New York , †  May 17, 1936 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1934 and 1936 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Thomas attended public schools in his homeland. In 1904 he graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy . A year later he moved to Hoosick Falls in Rensselaer County , where he worked as a pharmacist. Later he also worked as a druggist. He also got into banking and politics. He became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1917 and 1925 he was employed as a town clerk in the administration of his hometown. He then served as a member of the New York State Assembly in 1925 and 1926 . From 1927 to 1933 he served as a treasurer in Rensselaer County. There he was also the Republican district chairman between 1927 and 1934.

After the death of MP James S. Parker , Thomas was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, where he took up his new mandate on January 30, 1934, when the by-election was due for the 29th seat in New York. After his re-election, he remained in Congress until his death on May 17, 1936 . During this time, more New Deal laws were passed by the Roosevelt government, which Thomas' party was rather hostile to.
