Thomas Kölpin

Thomas Kölpin (born November 8, 1968 in Hamburg ) is a German biologist . Since 2009 he has been director of the Thuringian Zoopark Erfurt . Since January 1, 2014 he has been director of Wilhelma in Stuttgart .

Career

Kölpin grew up in Norderstedt and initially studied psychology in Gießen and Hamburg from 1990 to 1991 . From 1992 to 1998 he studied biology in Hamburg. He received his doctorate in Bonn in 2005 and then gained experience as a scientific assistant in Hamburg's Hagenbeck Zoo until 2007 . There he became head of the terrestrial section of the tropical aquarium and curator for reptiles and amphibians in February 2007.

In April 2009, Kölpin was appointed the new director of the Thuringian Zoopark Erfurt and implemented a new elephant facility there. On January 1, 2014, Kölpin took over the management of Wilhelma in Stuttgart .

Since 2001 he has been the expert examiner for terraristics and dangerous animals of the German Society for Herpetology and Terrarium Studies . Kölpin has three daughters with his wife and privately owns pythons .
