Augustus Frank (born July 17, 1826 in Warsaw , Wyoming County , New York , †  April 29, 1895 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1859 and 1865 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Augustus Frank was the nephew of Congressmen William Patterson (1789–1838) and George Washington Patterson (1799–1879). He attended the public schools in his home country and then worked in commerce. He later served as a director and vice president of the Buffalo & New York City Railroad . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In June 1856 he took part as a delegate at the first Republican National Convention in Philadelphia , at which John C. Frémont was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the congressional elections of 1858 Frank was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 30th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Judson W. Sherman on March 4, 1859 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1865 . These had been shaped by the events of the civil war since 1861 . Since March 4, 1863, Frank represented the 29th district of his state as the successor to Alfred Ely .

In 1864 he renounced another congressional candidacy. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, he became a director of the Wyoming County National Bank in 1865 . In 1967 and 1868 he was a delegate to a constitutional convention of his state. Between 1870 and 1882 he served as one of the directors of the state mental hospital in Buffalo . In 1871 Augustus Frank founded the Bank of Warsaw , of which he remained president until his death. He was also a director of the Rochester Trust & Safe Deposit Co and state commissioner for the maintenance of public parks. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Railroad . In 1894 he again took part as a delegate to a New York constitutional convention. He died on April 29, 1895 in New York City and was buried in Warsaw.
