John Magee (born September 3, 1794 in Easton , Pennsylvania , † April 5, 1868 in Watkins , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1827 and 1831 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Magee attended community schools. He served in the British-American War . In 1812 he moved to Bath in Steuben County . He was elected constable in 1818 - a post he held until 1820. He was then appointed sheriff in Steuben County in 1821 and was elected regularly in 1822. Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction.

In the 1826 congressional elections for the 20th Congress , Magee was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 28th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Timothy H. Porter on March 4, 1827 . He was re-elected once. Since he refused to run again in 1828 , left the congress after March 3, 1831 .

In 1867 he took part as a delegate to the New York Constituent Assembly . The rest of the time he devoted himself to banking, railways and mining. He died on April 5, 1868 in Watkins, Schuyler County . His body was buried in Glenwood Cemetery .
