Rollin B. Sanford

Rollin Brewster Sanford (born May 18, 1874 in Nicholville , New York , † May 16, 1957 in Loudonville , New York) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1921 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . Congressman Jonah Sanford was his great-grandfather.

Career

Rollin Brewster Sanford attended public schools. He graduated in 1893 at the Albany High School , 1897 at Tufts College in Medford ( Massachusetts ) and 1899 at the Albany Law School . After receiving his license to practice bar in 1899, he began practicing in Albany . Between 1901 and 1906 he served in the New York National Guard . He was then between 1908 and 1914 as a prosecuting attorney in Albany County . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1914 congressional elections for the 64th Congress , Sanford was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 28th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Peter G. Ten Eyck on March 4, 1915 . He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he refused to run again in 1920 , he resigned from Congress after March 3, 1921 .

After his time in Congress he practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1921 and 1940 he sat on the New York State Board of Law Examiners . He died on May 16, 1957 in the Village of Loudonville ( Town of Colonie ). His body was then interred in the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands .
