Judson W. Sherman (1859)

Judson W. Sherman (* 1808 in New York ; †  November 12, 1881 in Angelica , New York) was an American politician . Between 1857 and 1859 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Judson Sherman attended preparatory schools. He later held some local offices in Angelica. Between 1831 and 1837 he was employed by the county government in Allegany County . Around 1850 he was Deputy Minister of Finance ( Treasurer ) of his state. In the 1850s he joined the Republican Party , which was then founded .

In the 1856 congressional election , Sherman was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 30th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Benjamin Pringle on March 4, 1857 . Until March 3, 1859, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

Between September and November 1861, Sherman served as a captain on Brigadier Wood's staff for three months in the Civil War. Nothing is known about his further professional career. He died in Angelica on November 12, 1881.
