Thomas Schmeck Flood (born April 12, 1844 in Lodi , New York , † October 28, 1908 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1891 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Schmeck Flood was born in Seneca County about two years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . He attended community schools and the Elmira Free Academy . He then studied medicine but never practiced. Flood then ran a drug business. He moved to Pennsylvania and founded the town of DuBois . He was the first postmaster there . He later returned to Elmira , where he sat on the Board of Aldermen in 1882 and 1883 . Flood held the post of President of the Chemung County Agricultural Society in 1884 and 1885 . He worked in agriculture and as a lumberjack. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1886 for the 50th Congress , Flood was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 28th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded John Arnot junior on March 4, 1887 . He was re-elected once. Since he on a run again in 1888 renounced, he left the after 3 March 1891 Congress of. During his time at Congress, he chaired the Committee on Expenditures on Public Buildings ( 51st Congress ).

After his time at the congress he worked in the real estate business. He died on October 28, 1908 while visiting Pittsburgh. His body was then interred in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.
