Gerald Brooks Hunt Solomon (born August 14, 1930 in Okeechobee , Florida , † October 26, 2001 in Glen Falls , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1979 and 1999 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Gerald Brooks Hunt Solomon attended public schools in Delmar . Between 1949 and 1950 he went to the Siena College in Albany . In 1951 he joined the United States Marine Corps , where he served until 1952. He then attended St. Lawrence University in Canton between 1953 and 1954 . Solomon was the managing director. He held the post of Town Supervisor in Queensbury . Between 1968 and 1972 he was part of the Legislature of Warren County . He was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1973 and 1978 . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In 1976 he participated as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Kansas City .

In the 1978 congressional election for the 96th Congress , Solomon was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 29th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Edward W. Pattison on January 4, 1979 . He was re-elected once. In 1982 he ran in the 24th constituency of New York for the 98th Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Richard Ottinger on January 4, 1983 . He was re-elected four times in a row. In the 1992 congressional election he was elected to the 103rd Congress in the 22nd constituency of New York , where he succeeded Benjamin A. Gilman on January 4, 1993 . He was re-elected twice in a row. Since he on a run again in 1998 renounced, he left the after Jan. 3, 1999 Congress of. For the last two terms in office, he chaired the Committee on Rules .

He died on October 26, 2001 in Glen Falls and was then buried in Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville .
