Fred J. Eckert

Fred J. Eckert (born May 6, 1941 in Rochester , New York ) is a former American politician . Between 1985 and 1987 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1964, Fred Eckert graduated from North Texas State University in Denton . He then studied at New York University in New York City and then at the New School for Social Research there . Between 1973 and 1984 he was president of the local in Rochester advertising agency Eckert Hogan Newell, Inc . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1970 and 1972 he was the mayor ( supervisor ) of the municipality of Greece ; from 1972 to 1982 he was a member of the New York Senate . From 1982 to 1984 he was the United States Ambassador to Fiji , responsible for Tonga , Tuvalu and Kiribati .

In the congressional elections of 1984 Eckert was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 30th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Barber B. Conable on January 3, 1895 . Since he was not confirmed in 1986, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1987 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Fred Eckert was American envoy to the United Nations Commission on Food and Agriculture in 1987 and 1988 . Today he is President of Eckert Associates .
