George A. Bagley

George Augustus Bagley (born July 22, 1826 in Watertown , New York , † May 12, 1915 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1875 and 1879 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Augustus Bagley received an academic education. He studied law . After receiving his license to practice bar in 1847, he began practicing in Watertown. In 1853 he gave up his practice as a lawyer and went to the manufacture of iron. He was Watertown's supervisor from 1865 to 1868. During this time he held the post of President of the Village in 1866. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1874 for the 44th Congress Bagley was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd constituency of New York , where he succeeded Ellis H. Roberts on March 4, 1875 . He was re-elected once and then dropped out after the March 3, 1879 Congress of.

After his time at the Congress he went back to the production of iron. He died in Watertown during World War I and was buried in Brookside Cemetery .
