Shaun Barker (born September 19, 1982 in Trowell ) is an English football player who is under contract with the English second division club Burton Albion .

Career

Rotherham United

Born from his own youth Shaun Barker made his debut on March 8, 2003 for Rotherham United in a 2-0 away defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion . During the season he played another ten league games and finished the Football League First Division 2002/03 with the second division in 15th place in the table. Two years later, Barker rose as a regular with his club from the newly introduced Football League Championship 2004/05 in the third division.

Blackpool FC

On August 2, 2006, Barker moved to third division rivals Blackpool FC . In the Football League One 2006/07 Blackpool finished third in the table and thus moved into the play-offs. After a first round win over Oldham Athletic (2: 1/3: 1), Barker and his team defeated Yeovil Town 2-0 in the final and secured promotion. The following two seasons he spent with Blackpool FC in the lower third of the table in the second division.

Derby County

On July 15, 2009 Shaun Barker was signed by the second division Derby County . Even with his new club, he found himself only in the lower middle of the table in the following two seasons. On March 13, 2012, he suffered a serious knee injury in the East Midlands derby against Nottingham Forest . The injury had not yet healed when the contract ended after the 2014/2015 season. Then Barker was without a club for a year.

Burton Albion

At the beginning of the 2016/2017 season, Barker received a contract with second division club Burton Albion . The Brewers coach at the time was Nigel Clough , who had last been Barker's coach at Derby County. Almost four and a half years after his last league game, Barker returned to professional football on August 26, 2016: In the game of the 5th round - against his old club Derby County - he was substituted on in the 93rd minute.
