Levi D. Carpenter

Levi D. Carpenter (born August 21, 1802 in Waterville , New York , † October 27, 1856 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . In 1844 and 1845 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Levi D. Carpenter was born in Oneida County about ten years before the outbreak of the British-American War . He attended public schools. Then he studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Waterville. In 1835 he was the supervisor of Sangerfield . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

Carpenter was elected to the 28th Congress in a by-election in the 20th  constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Samuel Beardsley . His term began on November 5, 1844. He renounced re-election bid in 1844, he retired after the March 3, 1845 from the Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he resumed his practice as a lawyer in Waterville. He died there on October 27, 1856 and was buried in the city cemetery.
