Hamilton Fish II
Hamilton Fish II (born April 17, 1849 in Albany , New York , † January 15, 1936 in Aiken , South Carolina ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ).
Life
He was the son of Julia Ursin Niemcewicz Kean and Hamilton Fish , the United States Secretary of State under President Ulysses S. Grant . In 1869 he graduated from Columbia College . He worked as a private secretary to his father and graduated from Columbia Law School in 1873.
From 1874 to 1896 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . There he was chairman of the Republican parliamentary group in 1890 and the speaker of the parliamentary chamber in 1895 and 1896 . After all, Fish was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1909 to 1911 ; he applied for re-election in vain.
He was the father of Hamilton Fish III , who also sat for New York State in the House of Representatives and was one of the leading figures of the Republicans there.
