Leonard Farbstein

Leonard Farbstein (born October 12, 1902 in New York City , † November 9, 1993 ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1957 and 1971 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Leonard Farbstein graduated from the High School of Commerce . He attended the City College of New York and the Hebrew Union Teachers College . In 1924 he graduated from New York University Law School. After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in a private practice. Between 1932 and 1956 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . During the First World War he served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve . He was the vice chairman of East River Day Camp , a charity. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1956 congressional elections for the 85th Congress , Farbstein was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th  electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Arthur George Klein on January 4, 1957 . He was re-elected six times in a row. When he ran for re-election in 1970 , he suffered a defeat and resigned from Congress on January 3, 1971 .

He died on November 9, 1993 in New York City and has been on the Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus ( New Jersey buried).
