Rotterdam is a town in Schenectady County in the US state of New York with about 28,000 inhabitants. It is named after the Dutch city of Rotterdam .
geography
Rotterdam has an area of 94.4 km². The village is west of the City of Schenectady on Interstate 90 , on the Erie Canal and on the banks of the Mohawk River .
history
The town was founded in April 1820, but today's municipality was already populated by Dutch people from around 1661.
