Francis Emanuel Shober
Francis Emanuel Shober (born October 24, 1860 in Salisbury , North Carolina , † October 7, 1919 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1905 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . Congressman Francis Edwin Shober was his father.
Career
Francis Emanuel Shober was born in Salisbury about six months before the civil war broke out . He was tutored and graduated from St. Stephen's College in Annandale in 1880 . He did ministerial and educational work in Dutchess County . Then he worked as a reporter for the Poughkeepsie News Press . Between 1880 and 1891 he was a pastor at St. John's Episcopal Church in Barrytown . He edited the Rockaway Journal in Far Rockaway . Then he sat on the editorial staff of New York World . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .
In the 1902 congressional elections for the 58th Congress , Shober was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 17th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Arthur S. Tompkins on March 4, 1903 . In 1904 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1905 Congress of.
He worked as Deputy Tax Appraiser in New York in 1907 and 1908 . Then he was back in the newspaper business. He edited the New York American until his death on October 7, 1919 in New York City . His body was then interred in Worcester Cemetery in Danbury , Fairfield County .
