Alexander H. Buell

Alexander Hamilton Buell (born July 14, 1801 in Fairfield , New York , † January 29, 1853 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alexander Hamilton Buell was born in Fairfield, Herkimer County , in the early 19th century . He attended county schools and the Fairfield Academy . He then went on to do commercial business in Fairfield, but mainly ran general stores in other cities. In 1845 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1850 congressional elections for the 32nd Congress , Buell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 17th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Henry P. Alexander on March 4, 1851 . However, he died before the end of his term on January 29, 1853 in Washington DC. His body was buried in the Episcopal Cemetery in Fairfield.

Honors

A memorial ( cenotaph ) was named in honor of him in the Congressional Cemetery erected.
