Michael Nicholas Nolan (born May 4, 1833 in County Carlow , Ireland , † May 31, 1905 in Albany , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Michael Nicholas Nolan was born in County Carlow during the reign of William IV , King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover . He immigrated to the United States at the age of ten. He attended public schools in Albany there. Then he began law not to study, but closed its courses from. After the outbreak of the gold rush in California , he tried his luck there. Nolan worked in the San Francisco tram network and later as a manager. He returned to Albany and worked there as a brewer. He then served as director of the National Savings Bank of Albany. Between 1869 and 1878 he was Albany's First Commissioner . He was elected Mayor of Albany - a position he held as the successor to A. Bleecker Banks from May 1878 until his resignation on June 24, 1883. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1880 congressional elections for the 47th Congress , Nolan was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  electoral district of New York , where he succeeded John Mosher Bailey on March 4, 1881 . Since he on a run again in 1882 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1883 Congress of.

He was re-elected Mayor of Albany. He continued his business activities. He died on May 31, 1905 in Albany and was then buried in St. Agnes Cemetery .
